Objective:
In May 2004, I graduated from Acadia University in Nova Scotia, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. Upon graduation
I was immediately accepted into the teaching certification program at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. I graduated
in December 2005 with my certification as teacher, and was offered a position teaching English in South Korea.
Experience:
February 1 2006- August 1, 2006: Gyeonggi English Village
Paju Camp Teacher/ Content Area Leader
At the English Village, I am employed as a teacher and Content Area Leader for the Speechcasting
Program. As CAL, I oversee and maintain curriculum development, scheduling, and day to day teaching for the Speechcasting
Content Area. I am responsible for teaching a minimum of two content classes, conducting two homeroom sessions, and contributing
to curriculum development daily. Classes consist of 12-25 students, and involve extensive technology use. Often classes are
taught with a co-teacher.
The English Village is a new concept in Korea, where students embark on a one week English immersion
program. 500 students visit the EV every week in a camp style setting. These are Korean students who aspire to learn the English
language. Some have English proficiency, but many have very low English skills. This means that every class teachers must
be prepared to change the level of their lessons to accommodate the levels of the students.
Summer 2004, 2003, 2002: Camp Rotary
Counselor/Unit-Head
As a camp counselor I was directly responsible for the safety and care of 10 campers. As unit head
I was responsible for the 11 other counselors in the unit, and up to 75 campers. As Unit Head, I was an important part of
planning, with the other three Unit Heads, of each activity the campers faced daily at camp.
2002-2001: Senior Welcome Week Frosh Leader, Acadia University
I was chosen as the Senior Frosh Leader for the largest residence on campus. This required a few intense days
of training with seven other senior leaders followed by a week of training the approximately 125 welcome week leaders and
Residence Assistants for the 2002-03 School year. Duties included training the frosh leaders; planning many activities for
the freshman students, meeting parents, and making everyone feel welcome in their first week at University. In 2001, I was
one of 10 frosh leaders who organized and carried out activities for first year students upon arriving at university in September.
1993-present: Assistant Race Director, YMCA of Yarmouth Annual
Triathlon
As Assistant Race Director for this event, I am responsible for all of the events on race day as well as aiding in the
organizing of the race in advance. In response to my involvement in this, in 2003 I began a level two certified Triathlon
Official and a level one Triathlon coach.
